The village of Dambovicioara spread along the valley floor with wooded ridges above it

Dambovicioara · Arges

Above the village, and that is the point

A timber house on the slope, with the whole valley laid out under it and the ridge behind that.

The house is built around what you can see out of it.

Which is why this page keeps opening windows. Five of them, in the order you meet them if you drive up, park, and walk in.

01

The arrival

The road runs out here

You park on the stone, and the rest of it is uphill on foot. The dark timber roof is the house.

A long built in timber bench on the porch with a red cushion and a lion print pillow, stone floor underneath

02

The porch

Most people never get past this bench

It is built into the wall, it runs the length of the porch, and it faces the hill. The front door can wait.

Inside

Timber, then more timber

Pine overhead, stained beams across it, and a mantel heavy enough that nobody is moving it again.

Upstairs, on the way to the bedrooms

It is called Hunter's Lodge and it means it.

The walls are not decorated to look the part. Whoever built this house filled it with what they brought back, and then put pine over everything else.

The children's room with a bunk bed, soft toys lined up on a low shelf and a small icon on the wall

The small room

Bunks, and a shelf full of company

The room the children pick first, which saves everybody an argument on the first night.
